Re: ‘Stand Fast Craigellachie’ – Celebrating National Unity and Diversity

Come celebrate Canada 150, BC Day, and a commemoration of the contributions of Chinese workers to the construction of the Canadian Pacific railroad. On Aug. 7th, from 9 am to 1:50 pm, please join us for this auspicious event at the Last Spike at Craigellachie.

This will be a fun family event with numerous kids’ activities, a visit from Thomas the Tank Engine, educational booths, a BBQ from 12 -1 pm, and live entertainment from Aza Deschamps and Cole Blakely and the Revelstoke Highlanders Pipe Band.

At roughly 11:30 am, we will unveil two decorative panels on the exterior of the Last Spike Gift shop celebrating the contributions of Chinese pioneer labourers. Following the unveiling, there will be traditional Lion, Dragon and Chinese folk dances performed by the Okanagan Chinese Canadian Association. There will also be an opportunity for Chinese Canadians to sign a memory scroll and guest book which will be displayed at the site. Kids will have the opportunity to create their own fortune cookie saying as well.

Master Shui Tung Lee, of the OCCA Dancers, will speak at the event, along with Shuswap MLA, Greg Kyllo and Columbia River-Revelstoke MLA Doug Clovechok along with other dignitaries present.

We look forward to official provincial recognition at a future time through a plaquing process already underway in other BC communities. We look forward to seeing you there! Please RSVP by Monday, July 31st, 2017 if possible.

Kind regards,
